This happens so often in VN. Deeply disappointed though we are, we are trying our best to protect our visitors.

The average taxi fare in VN is between 14.000 to 17.000 per km. It is advisable to preview your travel distance in Google Map to estimate how much you need to pay.

For example, since the journey from TSN Airport to Ben Thanh Market in District 1 is approximately 10km, a payment in the region of 150,000 to 200,000VND (~$10) is desirable. Any higher price would be a clear indication of deliberate rip-off.

  • When you first enter the car: ask the driver how far and how much it would probably cost (in VND, not in USD).
  • What to do if you feel like you are being ripped off (the money seems to increase two or threefold): try to bargain with the driver. Keep calm and stay in. Do not allow the driver force you or rush you to get out of the car. Finally, if you can't negotiate at all, you take advantage of your phone to make a video or take photos of the vehicle registration plate and brand name, or the driver's license. Most drivers are fear being reported.

You can report or share your experience to others on the AskVietnamese website. We would love to hear more from you. Sincerely, it's the tourists who can help the most by sharing their own experience!
